Finding what's been here all along
Mindfulness is not something we must strive to get or even strengthen. You might say mindfulness is learning to remember what’s been here all along. All along the present moment has afforded a kind of vivid clarity and we do don’t need to go anywhere to find it. The wisdom empowering us to respond to the challenges and changing currents of life is innate. If we value these things, we may try to intellectually learn mindfulness, but that would be like trying to get stronger by reading a book about fitness. We might want to join a gym. We may try to define mindfulness, but each conclusion is just a finger pointing to something. It’s not the thing. Trying to analyze mindfulness is about as interesting as trying to analyze fun. We may want to experience it!
